About Stellah
Stellah Jongwe, born with phocomelia, is an exceptional athlete and a symbol of resilience, hope, and an unwavering spirit. At only 22 years old, she has established herself as Zimbabwe’s top female wheelchair racer.
Stellah’s life has been shaped by hardship since her childhood. She was raised by a single mother who struggled with mental health issues and lost her father at a young age. Despite these challenges, Stellah has transformed her adversity into strength and has achieved remarkable success in wheelchair racing, both nationally and internationally.
Stellah has achieved a lot in her career. She won the gold medal in the T53/54 category at the OCC Outeniqua Wheelchair Race in 2019 and 2022. She also dominated the women’s wheelchair 21km category at the Tanganda Tea Half-Marathon for two consecutive years, 2022 and 2023. In addition, she has won back-to-back victories at the Econet Wireless Vic Falls Half Marathon. She has triumphed in several other prestigious wheelchair races throughout Zimbabwe, including the celebrated Sunshine City Marathon in 2023.
Stellah has set her sights on achieving global recognition in wheelchair racing. She has been invited to participate in the 42nd Oita International Wheelchair Marathon in Japan and aspires to compete in races across the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland. Additionally, she has her eyes set on competing in the 2024 Paralympics in France.
Stellah’s races are more than just medals and accolades. They spread hope, inspire others, and showcase Zimbabwe’s strength and talent to the world.
